Claire Wilkinson has been newly appointed to the Board of NESsT UK. She’s walking the 184 miles of the Thames Path from the barrier east of Greenwich to the river’s source in Gloucestershire. While she walks, she’s going to consider social entrepreneurship and write a blog for us. She’s hoping to encourage donations to NESsT, to raise money for social enterprises generating dignified jobs for people most in need.

On March 7th, investment professionals, philanthropists, strategists and changemakers came together at the Royal Academy of Arts to discuss how to grow the social entrepreneurship ecosystem. Why social entrepreneurship? It offers sustainable solutions to unemployment, environmental degradation, and poverty.

Cafe Compadre's $25,000 loan was funded in under 72 hours! Thanks to the 766 Kiva lenders for becoming part of Compadre's mission to improve incomes for coffee farmers through solar tech!
Through the NESsT-Kiva partnership, Suritex has obtained a total of $50,000 of financing as credit that will allow the company to expand its operations and include more smallholders who can sell their alpaca fiber at a fair price. This was achieved over the course of two Kiva campaigns in September and December.
This fall, NESsT hosted several promising social enterprises from South America at the SOCAP15 conference in San Francisco. The conference is the annual gathering of the Social Capital Markets, a network of organizations dedicated to increasing the flow of capital to effect social good.
