Sean McKaughan is Chief Executive Officer of Fundación Avina and a member of its Board of Directors. He has twenty years of experience in the field of sustainable development and has published two books on the subject. McKaughan has collaborated with institutions such as the World Bank, the Brazilian Instituto de Pesquisas Econômicas Aplicadas (IPEA), the LBJ School of Public Affairs, the Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC), the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, and the Center for the Study of Western Hemispheric Trade, among others.
In 1998, he began working at Avina, one of the largest private foundations in Latin America with operations in 15 countries of the region. Sean set up and managed Avina’s operations in Brazil until 2006, when he became Chief Operations Officer for the organization. In January 2007 he was named its Chief Executive Officer.
Sean holds Master’s degrees in Urban Planning and in Latin American Studies, both from the University of Texas at Austin. He and his family have lived in Rio de Janeiro since 2001.
