Leonardo Letelier

CEO & Founder, sitawi
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Leonardo Letelier started ‘sitawi – finance for good’, with the mission to develop financial infrastructure for the social sector. In pioneering the concept of social finance in Brazil, it created the country’s first Social Fund – providing credit to mission-based businesses, recycling the repayments into the fund and multiplying the impact on some of the most vulnerable people, communities, and ecosystems. Since 2009, sitawi has lent over US$1 million to 10 organizations. New products include the management of social funds for external parties (such as USAID and US multinationals) and a fund to support nonprofit mergers.

sitawi won IADB’s beyondBanking award for socially responsible investments in 2011 and was featured in Stanford’s Social Innovation Review magazine. Prior to establishing sitawi, Leonardo was director of Ashoka’s Full Economic Citizenship Initiative in Brazil, and worked for McKinsey for 8 years.

Letelier holds an Industrial Engineer degree from the University of São Paulo and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
