Since April 2012 Ilona Gosk is the Director of Social Policy Office in Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland. The Office takes up social problems, and in particular those related to social security, labour market, family policy, education and health, social exclusion, problems of women and elderly people, as well as problems related to the formation of civil society. The remit of the Office includes the following: preparing thematic analyses, monitoring social policy-related legislation, preparing and putting together meetings under the aegis of the Public Debate Forum.

Ilona has worked in the third sector for over 15 years. In 1994–2000 she was a member of the board of the Komuna Otwock Association. In this organization she was responsible for developing new programs for children from disadvantaged backgrounds in the local community.

In 2000–2012 she has worked for Foundation for Social and Economic Initiatives (for 10 years as a President of the Board) – an independent non-profit organization. Its mission is a systemic approach and acting to increase employment, especially among the professionally inactive groups. Since 2005 FISE has been animating discussions among NGOs and public administration about the development of the social economy sector in Poland through publications, conferences, seminars, trainings, etc. FISE is managing the biggest Polish internet portal on social economy, www.ekonomiaspoleczna.pl, and is in charge of the Standing Conference on the Social Economy (SKES) secretariat. Since 2006 FISE with other SKES partners has been organizing annual Polish Social Economy Meetings.
