RAMP

We provide a combination of financial capital, training and mentoring, and access to markets and networks, to enable our portfolio to plan for, start up, or expand social enterprises.

Our Portfolio Process

We recognize that every social enterprise is different. Our portfolio process and support is designed to respond to the unique needs of each social enterprise through the various stages of development.

We provide support for social enterprises in the Incubation, Launching, Expansion and Exit phases. Each phase builds upon the former, and each has specific goals and indicators to determine a social enterprise’s eligibility to progress to the next:

RAMP PERU organizes its work according to the following three components:

1. To organize social enterprise competitions grounded in training and mentoring for technology creators (two programs in five years). The “Mentoring and Capacity-building Program for Technology Creators” has the objective of identifying, incubating and mentoring those individuals, groups and/or microenterprises that develop innovative technological products focused on resolving the basic needs of a community, and which are able to be disseminated through effective business strategies.

2. To make a significant contribution to the national and/or regional context by stimulating and, more concretely, increasing technological inventions and innovation. To this end, RAMP PERU carries out diverse activities to foster and promote technological innovation with a number of different public and private universities, as well as with those stakeholders associated with national systems for technological innovation in each of the regions where the project is present (Cajamarca, Cusco, Puno and Lima).

3. To ensure the sustainability of the model of interventionof the RAMP PERU project. With the goal of creating a learning- and knowledge-based resource, RAMP PERU has implemented a monitoring and evaluation system. In addition, it is developing a strategy grounded in co-funding and self-sustainability in order to extend the duration of the project in Peru, such that it constitutes a sustainable model in the long term.

The Project model is divided into four phases:

Incubation (9-12 months): During this phase, 20 to 30 proposals are selected to be part of a capacity-building process that will ultimately yield the development of a technological prototype and a business plan. Each participant will be awarded up to US$ 6 000 at this stage.

Launching (6 months): In this phase, RAMP PERU provides consultancy, general support/mentoring and financial support in order to deliver the technological product to the market by means of a business strategy. Once the incubation phase has ended, at least seven proposals are selected to receive loans or venture grants of up to US$20 000 in order to launch the product.

Expansion (9-12 months): This third phase consists of ongoing consultancy and mentoring for the scaling-up and diversification of the business strategy proposals that continue to develop in the market.

Exit (3-6 months):The final phase emphasizes advice/consultancy as a means to consolidate the sustainability of the business strategy in the future without the involvement of the project.

Expansion Phase: social enterprises scale to increase social impact.

NESsT provides on-going, higher levels of support to those social enterprises in our portfolio that demonstrate the capacity and potential to expand to achieve larger-scale social impact.

We offer long-term (typically over 5 years) financial and capacity-building support to enable social enterprises to grow, replicate, or otherwise scale their activities. We provide higher levels of financial support in the form of venture grants, loans and, occasionally, equity investments, or a combination thereof. Our portfolio team and BAN continue to closely support each social enterprise to develop an expansion strategy, to manage growth, to monitor performance, and to attract additional investment needed to scale.
