NESsT Development Manager

NESsT is looking for a Development Manager to provide support to NESsT senior
management and staff to fundraise and do business development to a broad audience of
donors and clients from foundations, corporations, individuals, non-profit organizations,
and government. This full-time position will be based in the San Francisco Bay Area and
candidates must be willing to operate from a home-based office. The position reports to the
Director of Client & Investor Relations. Fluency – written and spoken – in English and Spanish
is required.
Responsibilities include:
• Researching: perform on-line research of potential funding opportunities, including new
calls for tenders, guidelines for proposals, sector-specific research, funding trends, etc.
Provide summarized information to NESsT senior management to inform fundraising
and consulting strategy and decisions.
• Prospecting: identify and research, based on needs, specific donors and clients that
could be potential partners for NESsT. This research is often time-sensitive and
to be performed for specific senior management meetings and fundraising trips.
• Writing and editing: work with senior management and program staff to develop
fundraising proposals and presentations to potential donors and clients.
Coordinate the development of funding budgets with NESsT’s Financial Manager.
• Reporting: manage reporting timeline and deliverables and working with staff to obtain
relevant program information for external reporting and coordinating, editing, and
translating donor and client reports.
• Managing donor and impact information: manage NESsT’s database of donor and client
information, including its fundraising pipeline of opportunities and provide progress
reports on fundraising and consulting goals. Coordinate with staff to create reports on
NESsT’s social impact and reporting the information to donors.
• Assisting with campaigns: Assisting senior management with individual donor relations,
especially for fundraising campaigns, including coordination of thank you letters and
tax-deduction certificates, administration of NESsT’s online donation engine, and
preparation of donor reports.
• Coordinating fundraising and business development trips: provide support to staff on
coordinating fundraising trips, including research of specific donors and clients, setting
up meetings, preparing meeting information packets, etc.
•Contributing to NESsT internal and external communication: provide support to
NESsT’s communication team for the development of press releases, articles, and
newsletter relating to fundraising activities.
•Updating and maintaining donor and client pages of the NESsT website in conjunction
with communications staff.
•Events organizing: assist with the coordination of fundraising events in NESsT
countries, including supporting program staff and working with the communications staff
with editing and distribution of signs, banners, and other marketing materials for events.
Qualifications:
• Fluent in English and Spanish (language skills will be tested).
• University degree or equivalent relevant work experience (minimum 3 years -
experience working in emerging market countries is a plus).
• Impeccable English and Spanish writing skills (academic editing and grant writing
experience preferred).
• Very strong capacity to conduct research and organize information.
• Strong skills in the development of PowerPoint presentations and Excel spreadsheets.
• Knowledge of international nonprofit environment and passion for social change issues.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills, strong attention to detail and the
ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to be flexible, resourceful and innovative in a small, dynamic, nonprofit
environment.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
• Experience working from a home-based or virtual office preferred.
• Experience working in a multi-cultural environment.
• Experience working and living abroad a plus.
• NESsT will not relocate candidates, therefore San Francisco bay area residents
preferred.
Compensation: Salary in USD. Competitive nonprofit salary based on experience and salary
The position starts at the latest in September 2010.
