Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – NESsT is pleased to announce that it will participate in the 2nd Annual International Conference on Policy Innovation in Impact Investing, taking place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in the days leading up to the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (June 17-20).
The conference, convened by InSight at Pacific Community Ventures and the Initiative for Responsible Investment (IRI) at Harvard University, and supported by the Rockefeller Foundation, will convene more than 30 leading organizations seeking to design and implement sound public policy that creates a suitable enabling environment for impact investing around the world.
The conference recognizes the important role that public policy has in supporting impact investing. This role includes redirecting key financial players towards key investment areas or providing tax breaks or subsidies for investments for social enterprises or other form of enterprise that solves critical social problems.
In addition, the conference will see the launching of the Impact Investing Policy Collaborative (IIPC), which strives to clarify the role of public policy in impact investing through research and collaboration. “It helps investors, public officials, advocates, researchers and related communities better identify and support policies that lead to more robust and effective capital markets with intentional social and environmental benefits.”
As a practitioner organization that also conducts research and publishes policy recommendations on how to create an enabling environment for impact/social enterprises, NESsT sees the conference and the Impact Investing Policy Collaborative (IIPC) as key opportunities to share its experience and research findings.
“Our interest and goal is to create a legal structure that allows for the constitution of social enterprises and provide investors and donors, both private and public, with incentives for providing different forms of capital to that entity,” said Nicole Etchart, NESsT´s CEO and Co-founder.
“We believe we can be a significant contributor to the IIPC and we look forward to the conference and overcoming the challenges that impact investing faces at a global level” added Etchart.
