Celso Grecco

Brazilian Social Stock Exchange

(Brazil)

Celso Grecco has a degree in communications and marketing and started his career as journalist in 1982. In 1984, he was hired by one of the largest advertising agencies in Brazil to launch its Public Relations department. Celso then spent two years in the UK (1986-1988) working in the fields of promotional and direct marketing. In 1989, back to Brazil, Celso launched his own advertisement business. In 2000, Celso founded Atitude, one of the first CSR agencies in Brazil dedicated to building “social platforms” for corporations and helping NGOs build strategy and communication plans.

In 2003, Celso created a Social Stock Exchange (SSE) within Bovespa, Brazil’s Stock Exchange. SSE was recognized by UNESCO as unique, has been adopted by the United Nations Global Compact Office as a Case Study and replicated in South Africa in 2006. The SSE is a model recommended by UN to other stock exchanges in the world.

Celso was also founder and past president of Aldeia do Futuro, a NGO recognized as one of the Best Social Technologies in Sao Paulo, and is a board member of several NGOs. His next enterprise is the Financial Forum for Social Investments and will be organized under the umbrella of the Instituto de Valores Socioambientais (Social and Environmental Institute) of which Celso is founder and president.

Celso was elected an Ashoka Fellow in 2006 and Synergos Senior Fellow for the Class of 2008.
