Luis Fernando Laranja da Fonseca is a founder and senior partner at Kaeté Investimentos, an investment manager specialized in investing in projects related to sustainable development, ie, investments that contribute to long-term economic development, to preserve the environment and to create a fairer society.

In the past 19 years Laranja has accumulated a large experience in the food industry and since 2001 Laranja has experienced business challenges and stakeholder relationship management in the Amazon Region . He is one of the founders and main executive of OuroVerde Amazônia, a processing company that works with the Brazil Nut and Açaí industries. OuroVerde sold shares to Grupo Orsa in 2009 and, since that date, Laranja has been the CEO of the company within Grupo Orsa, one of the largest private sector enterprises in the Amazon built considering sustainable development principles (3Ps, People, Profit, Planet). Laranja was manager of Business Department within Orsa Foundation and is a member of the E2 consulting group (specialized in commodities, agribusiness and environment).

Laranja has been a consultant to the largest food and pharmaceutical companies in Brazil (Itambé, Schering-Plough, Nestlé, Parmalat, Pfizer, Novartis), has worked as a private consultant to over 110 farms all over Brazil and has acted as ad hoc consultant for important research institutes (CNPq and EMBRAPA). Laranja was the coordinator for the Agriculture and Environment progam in WWF and also coordinated the “Sustainable Agrocommodities” of the Amazon Network Initiative of WWF (2007 to 2009). He was one of the founders and president of Instituto OuroVerde. He was a consultant to the United Nations Development program (UNDp in the project “Biodiversity and Sustainable Use of the Forest in the Northeast of MT State (PNUD-BRA/00/G31 – GEF). He is a member of the Council of Fundação Orsa since 2009), was a member of the Dialog Group for Sugarcane – GDC (2007 to 2009) and member of the External Council of Embrapa (since 2007). Laranja was the vice-president of the “Round Table for Responsible Soy Association” – RTRS (2008) and member of CODAM – Council for the Sustainable Development of the Amazon in MT (2004/2005). Laranja was a professor and researcher in the Veterinary School of o University of São Paulo from 1993 to 2002. He did his Pos-Doctorate in Animal Science in the University of Kentucky (USA).

Laranja graduated in Veterinary in UFRGS, specialized in Agroindustrial management in UFLA, has a M.Sc. in agronomy at Escola Superior de Agricultura “Luiz de Queiroz” (ESALQ/ USP) and finalized his phD in Veterinary Medicine at FMVZ-USP.
