IEP aspires to increase youth literacy rates throughout the country. In primary school, the reading comprehension rate in Peru is 29,8%, one of the lowest in Latin America.
Under the Peruvian government’s “Reading Plan”, IEP launched a collection of children’s story books based on the award-winning books written by Peruvian historian, Dr. Maria Rostorowski. The collection consists of 8 titles targeted at 3rd to 6th grade students and will be sold to schools throughout Peru..
- 540 books were sold during 2012, when the publication was released.
- 20 bookstores all along the country currently sell the publication.
